Advent calendars can be traced back as early as the 19th century. In anticipation of the holidays, I’ve created a budget friendly gift giving series that is sure to tug at heart strings and not at wallets.

So what is an Advent Calendar? The Advent Calendar is a fun way to count down the days to the holiday season. Whatever is celebrated, these are festive and inventive. I’ve been super creative lately and think that these are great for early gift giving. The start of the advent begins December 1st, so now is the time to stock up, save and get creative!

1. For Wine Enthusiasts

DIY Wine Advent Calendar

Great for roommates, girl’s nights in or date nights, try a different wine every night leading up to the holiday. Extra: Write a compliment, affirmation, or date night idea on each tag.

Chef Chloe’s Vegan Italian Kitchen

I really love Chef Chloe, her recipes are easy, creative and delicious! Her newest book Chloe’s Vegan Italian Kitchen is in Barnes & Noble’s Best Cookbooks section and changing kitchens globally. Here’s an idea- tag the recipes to try on each day leading up to the holiday. Extra: Delicious meals, low grocery bill and health benefits!

3. For Beauty Addicts

L’Occitane En Provence 13 Desserts of Provence

I LOVE L’Occitane! They are cruelty-free, made from essential oils and last a lifetime! What better way to gift some beauty than with this 13 Desserts of Provence gift set, only $68 packing little minis of L’Occitane’s best of beauty. Inspired by the Provencal holiday tradition, this adorable advent calendar is sure to please any crowd by delivering a darling treat on each of the 13 days leading up to the holidays!

4. For the Comic Con Aficionados

Comic-A-Day

My readers know how much I love Tate’s Comics. For the holidays and twist on the traditional Advent Calendar, why not gift a comic book a day? Create a new holiday tradition by supporting local businesses and giving gifts that give back to the community.

TATE'S Comics, Inc.

Wrap up twenty-five children's books and put them under the tree with a special blanket next to them. Before bed each evening, your kids choose one book to open and read together until Christmas. Love it! This might be better than an advent calendar!!

5. For Fashionistas

Giftcards to Shop

For fashionistas, try tucking giftcards of different amounts for different shops to build a wardrobe! I love shopping the shops at CityPlace, they have a variety including one of my favorites-Francesca’s! Extra: Save money by upcycling and making a DIY Advent Calendar to store the giftcards.

A nice idea, I will try to make it using paper rolls.Sacchetti di carta per l'avventoAdventskalender mit Boxen // Box Advent calendar via DaWanda.com

Whatever the gift may be this holiday season, I always make sure it comes from the heart!

XOXO, Jessica
